Tom, Charles,
Here is an article that make some good points regarding the critic that Andreessen probably never articulated very well indeed but that has value:

Steve Jobs recent death marks the conclusion of an era, hardly ever has a individual guy improved the landscape of technological use quite as much in a short time period. Despite the fact that we debate the value of technologies, wether you like or don't like Apple merchandise lets us spend time to remember a truely visoanire man plus remember the family members Steve leaves behind. Apologies for interupting the flow of comments within your blogging site that I enjoy a great deal I merely want to remember Steve, who had previously been an awesome man and a personal friend.

he seems to know little about Oracle's business beyond it's global market leading database technologies. take a look at beyond the DB and you will find remarkable, non proprietary software that is changing the face of many industries such as healthcare, retail, financial services, and even newer markets like SaaS providers like Salesforce.com.

Hi Charles,
Andreessen may not have ran many profitable companies, SAP may not be your only competitor, but Larry Ellison and his crew (which you are a key player on I believe) sure have been spending much PR taking jabs at Plattner's technical innovations. You cannot deny those innovations are aimed at Cloud Computing and introduce radical new capabilities.
This week's change of direction at the OpenWorld seems to indicate Oracle is heading that way after all. Can you enlighten us on the Oracle product strategy regarding in-memory and real-time databases?
Thanks for participating.
Regards,
Dan Nicollet

Andreessen has never started or operated a profitable business. And SAP is not Oracle's major database competitor, IBM is, followed by Microsoft.
